Sevilla pay high price ahead of derby against Betis
Apart from the defeat against Espanyol, which meant Matias Almeida’s side returned to their old ways, the worst news for Sevilla was Ruben Vargas’ injury. He is probably the most quality player in Nervionense’s squad at the moment and will probably miss next Sunday’s derby against Betis at Sanchez Pizjuán.
Vargas sustained a puncture wound to the back of his thigh while attempting to confront his opponent, leaving him stranded on the grass and forced to be replaced by teammate Chidera Ejukwu. The winger will not be available for Almeida in matches marked in red unless confirmed by a doctor who will assess the extent of the injury. The Swiss player could not even support his legs as he left the field. This is Vargas’ second injury of the season, after suffering a muscular injury in the summer that caused him to miss the first day of the league.
And that wasn’t the only bad news for the Sevillaistas on the night in Corneja, as Januzaj had suffered a similar injury minutes earlier. The Belgian player collapsed on the grass and left looking very sad, knowing that his illness might not be a minor one.
Muscle injuries have been common in Sevilla’s team this season. Azpilicueta, Nianzau and Isaac Romero are currently sidelined, while Agume, Alexis Sanjes and Fabio Cardoso have just left the infirmary.
