French driver Ogier became WRC champion for the ninth time
French driver Sebastien Ogier from the Toyota Gazoo factory team won the World Rally Championship (WRC) title.
At the final stage of the season in Saudi Arabia, 41-year-old Ogier and co-driver Vincent Landais took third place; Belgian Thierry Neuville from the Hyundai Shell Mobis factory team won.
In the overall standings, Ogier scored 293 points, Briton Elfyn Evans (Toyota Gazoo, 289 points) was second, and Finn Kalle Rovanpera (Toyota Gazoo, 256) rounded out the top three.
“I never thought that this moment would come in my life after I decided to change my priorities and spend more time with my family.” I have the opportunity to work with a fantastic team, I found a navigator who does a great job, motivates me and makes me feel younger. Elfin was incredibly strong this year, pushing us to perform at our best until the very last stage,” Ogier wrote on social media.
Ogier became a nine-time WRC champion and equaled compatriot Sébastien Loeb’s record for the most titles.
