Moto2 title candidate Moreira loses in Q2 at Cheste. Manu Gonzalez (indoor)
Brazilian Diogo Moreira Brazil may be awarded its first world speed title this Sunday, but they failed to finish in the top 14 in Moto2 practice and must pass this Saturday’s Q1 repechage to fight for pole for the season’s final Grand Prix in Ceste, where the world title will be decided. Manu González had no problems and advanced to Q2 with the 10th fastest time.
The combination of González in 10th place and Moreira in 19th place will not help the Madrid native to be crowned champion on Sunday, as his options are more complex. He absolutely needs to win the race and Moreira needs to finish no better than 15th. Meanwhile, no matter what González does or even if he doesn’t win the race, the Brazilian will be crowned champion if he finishes in the top 14.
Best time, new record was for the rookie Dani Holgado 1’32″408, updated Fermin Aldeguer’s 1’33″264 in 2023. Behind him were Dixon, Dani Muñoz, Izan Guevara and Alex Escrig with a 2.5 second gap. Shortly after, Holgado crashed in Turn 2, the same crash that crashed his teammate David Alonso at the start of the session, and like Moreira he will have to go through repechage.
