Former NASCAR driver Greg Biffle, his wife and two children died in a plane crash.

The death of Biffle, who would have turned 56 on December 23, was confirmed by the press service of the racing series, expressing its deepest condolences.

According to ESPN, Biffle, his wife Christina, 14-year-old daughter Emma, ​​5-year-old son Ryder, and three other people were on board the private jet that crashed in North Carolina. It is reported that the aircraft attempted to return to the airport shortly after takeoff in difficult weather conditions, but fell to the ground and caught fire. Experts are looking into the exact cause of the crash.

Biffle was named one of NASCAR’s 75 Greatest Drivers and was known for his volunteerism and humanitarian work, including helping with Hurricane Helen relief efforts last fall.

During his career in the main NASCAR series from 2003 to 2016, Biffle won 17 races, in the 2005 season he took his best second place in the championship. He also became the winner of the junior classes of the main US touring car championship.
