Red Bull chief makes bold statements about Verstappen’s future
After 18 months of changes to Red Bull’s structure, team boss Oliver Mintzlaff has made a confident statement about the future of four-time world champion Max Verstappen.
Christian Horner, Adrian Newey and Helmut Marko, key players who led Red Bull to six constructors’ championships and eight drivers’ championships since 2010, left the team within two years. The most recent of these was Marco’s departure after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, leaving the team without many members of the old management structure.
There were rumors throughout the summer that Verstappen could leave Red Bull for Mercedes or Aston Martin.
However, in addition to extending the driver’s contract until the end of 2026, Mintzlaff also assured that he believes Verstappen will finish his career at Red Bull.
“It is important to say that I am not worried about any of the performance clauses in his contract. The most important thing for an athlete is to see the whole team doing their best. And I believe that Max was impressed with the results and the atmosphere in the team this year,” the leader said.
“Of course Max always wants to win and have the best car, but we strive for the same thing. As long as Max feels that we are working on it and doing our best, I think he will remain loyal to it. He also sees how much we have invested in our own engine. Remember that we are an energy drink brand and this is a unique move. There is a great mutual respect and loyalty. I have no doubt that Max Verstappen will retire at Red Bull.”
