Only Hamilton could do this. Can Norris do it again?
McLaren pilot Lando Norris became the Formula 1 champion by finishing third in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
This title placed him among the elite cyclists, making him the 35th world champion and 11th among British representatives. Previously this had been achieved by Mike Hawthorn, Graham Hill, Jim Clark, John Surtees, Jackie Stewart, James Hunt, Nigel Mansell, Damon Hill, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button.
However, although they won 21 championships together, only Lewis Hamilton managed to defend his championship. This happened in 2015 after the victory in the 2014 season – already as part of Mercedes.
The remaining British cyclists won their titles within a year or more.
Lando Norris could become only the second Briton in history to retain his title if he wins the 2026 title. McLaren is already demonstrating the high efficiency of its engineers, and the Mercedes power plants the team will use next year are called by many experts and insiders the best in the entire peloton.
