Red Bull president explains the reason for Christian Horner’s dismissal
Red Bull CEO Oliver Mintzlaff has commented on the team’s decision to part ways with boss Christian Horner earlier this year.
Horner has managed the Milton Keynes-based team since its formation in 2005 and has been directly involved in winning numerous championships alongside Max Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel.
However, due to a decline in the team’s results after the British Grand Prix, Horner was sacked from his position. His successor was Laurent Mekies. After this, Red Bull managed to improve its form significantly and Verstappen failed to win a fifth consecutive title, losing the title by just two points.
Mintzlaff emphasized that the management is considering the necessary changes given the situation at the track.
“I wouldn’t call it a risk because we were 100% confident in that decision. We knew we had to change things. I’m not the kind of manager who just fires people,” Mintzlaff said.
He also stressed that Horner’s past successes cannot guarantee future success.
“Christian has a fantastic track record and has achieved tremendous success with the team. Everyone in the company, including myself, appreciates his contributions.
But we are a professional organization. It is impossible to always rely on history alone, and we felt it was time to turn the page and start a new chapter. This was not an easy decision and it certainly wasn’t made overnight,” Mintzlaff added.
