Mercedes has become the second Formula 1 engine manufacturer, after Honda, to launch a power unit for the 2026 season and subsequent campaigns. The new championship will bring completely updated rules regarding chassis and engines, with power plant regulations radically rewritten for the first time since 2014.

Mercedes then gained a significant advantage over their rivals, which allowed the works team to win eight consecutive constructors’ championships. This led to speculation that the Brackley team and customer teams could once again gain the upper hand over rivals with other engines. Now with their engines, Mercedes is provisionally considered the main favorite for the 2026 season.

In the new era of Formula 1, Mercedes will continue to supply engines to McLaren and Williams, while Alpin will give up its factory status and become a customer of the German manufacturer. The Enstone team will be replaced by Aston Martin, which has a factory agreement with Honda.
