Europa will leave Now Sardinia
CE Europe will not be able to continue playing at Nou Sardinia. The National Court rejected precautionary measures sought by the club to allow men’s first team matches to be played at the stadium throughout the season. The Barcelona team will play at home in Can Drago from January 15, the deadline set by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) for the installation of natural grass fields.
The club has appealed following the Higher Sports Council’s refusal to challenge the RFEF’s Circular 99, which requires promoted teams to play on natural grass fields from the 2025/2026 season. The European Commission defended the rules as disproportionate and selective and that FIFA-approved artificial surfaces would be safe and suitable for competition, as is already the case in the Copa del Rey and Champions League.
Although no precautionary measures have been granted, the judicial process continues and the club assures that it will do everything in its power to protect its rights. Meanwhile, CE Europe and Barcelona City Council are working to adapt Can Drago so that players and fans will feel “at home” in the new stadium.
