Legendary ex-Red Bull boss wants to buy stake in Formula 1 team
Former Red Bull Racing boss Christian Horner is actively exploring the possibility of returning to Formula 1. Authoritative publication De Telegraaf reported that the Briton is trying to become a shareholder of the Alpine team with the support of investors.
Horner and a group of investors are said to be targeting the 24% stake currently held by US consortium Otro Capital.
Renault remains the majority owner of the team that will compete with Mercedes engines in Formula 1 from next season. The French automaker has repeatedly stated that its shares in the team are not for sale.
It is known that Horner wants to return to Formula 1 after leaving the Red Bull presidency. However, the 52-year-old specialist will not be able to work in the championship again until at least the spring of 2026.
Aston Martin, who have previously been mentioned as a possible target, have made it clear that the team is not interested in working with Horner either now or in the future, making their options limited.
Horner was fired from Red Bull after the British Grand Prix. During his time with the Australian team he helped the team win 6 constructors’ championships and 8 drivers’ championships.
The team made significant progress after his departure, but Max Verstappen failed to win his fifth world title in the final race of the season.
