Pepe Marti suffers a serious accident in his Formula E debut after many twists and turns
Pepe Marti started a new stage as an ABB FIA Formula E driver in São Paulo, but after his star performance in the electric championship made him one of the event’s great entertainers with a beautiful comeback that signaled his intentions to the entire grid, he retired in an accident after starting from 14th on the grid.
In his first race at this event in São Paulo, the first event on this course, Maruti was able to show a glimpse of the qualities that perfectly adapted to the new category and his car.
He gained two places at the start and was already in 10th place at the halfway point of the race. On lap 17, in attack mode, he was 6th and stable within the top 10. With two to go he was in ninth place, taking out da Costa and Müller who were running slowly due to double yellow flags. This is where fear arose. The accident was serious. Pepe went flying, his Cupra overturned several times, and a destroyed car was left at his feet. Pole sitter Jack Dennis won on the final lap.
