Athletic suffer their second biggest defeat under Valverde as manager.
Last Wednesday’s 5-0 defeat in Jeddah was Athletic’s second-heaviest defeat in 10 seasons, with Valverde on the bench. The first incident also took place against Barça, during a league match in which Gorka Iraíços was sent off. In a regular tournament match played at the Camp Nou on 17 January 2016, Mateu Lajos showed the Red-White goalkeeper a red card in the third minute. The match ended with a 6-0 victory for the Blaugrana, thanks to a hat-trick from Luis Suarez, two goals from Neymar, and one goal from Leo Messi, the maximum penalty.
