PHOTOGRAPH. The legendary Porsche and F1 driver passed away. Honored with a unique appearance
Legendary German racing driver Hans Herrmann, the first winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans race in Porsche history and the last living Formula 1 winner of the 1950s, passed away at the age of 98. Porsche officially announced his death on Friday evening.
The sad news came on the eve of the Formula E race in Mexico City, where Porsche made a special appearance in honor of Herrmann. The race at the Rodríguez Brothers Circuit kicks off a year-long celebration of Porsche’s 75th anniversary in motorsport, with Herrmann playing a key role in launching the brand onto the international stage.
The special livery was dedicated to the Porsche 550 Spyder driven by Herrmann to win its class in the legendary 1954 Carrera Panamericana, Mexico’s most famous road race.
A baker by profession, Herrmann entered motorsport in 1953 and took part in Formula 1 and endurance racing for the first time. He started his career by competing in 18 F1 Grands Prix, primarily for Mercedes. Following Tony Brooks’ death in 2022, Herrmann remains the last living F1 podium finisher from the 1950s, finishing third at the 1954 Swiss Grand Prix in the Silver Arrows.
His last Formula One Grand Prix participation was at his home race in Germany in 1969, but he retired from the start due to a possible technical problem.
Herrmann achieved his greatest success in sports car racing. In 1970, together with Richard Attwood, he led Porsche to its first overall victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and forever etched his name in motorsport history.

Warning to Nyland: they are forcing him to leave Sevilla
Orjan Nyland I have a problem. Within a few months, he had established himself as an undisputed player at Sevilla and was able to qualify. world Depending on your choice, Norwaywill not be playing at all and has confirmed that their presence at this summer’s events in the United States, Canada, and Mexico will be impaired. The Nordic goalkeeper is worried as he has been forgotten since the arrival of Vlacodimos and has informed the club that he wants to change his outlook in this market to ensure his presence at the World Cup.
And to reinforce this theory, Norwegian coach Starre Solbakken also weighed in on the issue, asking the footballers to find a solution now. Solbakken wants Norway to arrive fit for the historic event, and to do that he will have to change the scene. There was no continuity at Sevilla, especially after Matias Almeida’s side were eliminated from the Copa del Rey.
“It is clear that Orjan (Nyland) is in a difficult situation and something has to be done about it,” the Nordic coach said in a statement to VG Media. “I spoke to him a few days ago. He is a much better goalkeeper when he is playing than when he is not playing. In that meeting we said that he will hold out until the autumn. Now his time is running out. It is very important for us that he reaches a club where he can play. Right now he seems far from being the goalkeeper he is in Sevilla. I’m sure he thinks the same thing as me, “he asserted.
The matter was clear and Sevilla’s own coach Matias Almeida spoke about the situation at Nervion, but the Argentine did not provide much information. In the press conference before the game against Celta, he recalled the Norwegian coach’s words about Nyland. “I talked to him. I like talking to players and when they come to talk to me, too. He knows what I’m thinking and I know what he’s thinking,” he just said.
