A well-known insider reveals the future of Verstappen’s chief engineer
The future of Max Fesratppen’s chief engineer Gianpiero Lambiase has been one of the main topics of discussion in recent months. Following the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, sources said his role in the 2026 season would be discussed in the winter due to personal circumstances. These circumstances explain why Lambiase missed the Austrian and Belgian Grands Prix.
Between races Lambiase linked up with other teams, notably Aston Martin and Williams. This is no surprise as Lambiase is highly regarded as a racing engineer and his responsibilities have increased significantly in recent years. In addition to being Max Verstappen’s race engineer and thus a familiar voice on team radio, Lambiase also serves as Red Bull’s Head of Racing.
According to Eric van Haren, a source close to Red Bull and Verstappen, Lambiase will remain in the same position at the Austrian team in the 2026 season. At the same time, this does not exclude the possibility of a transition in the long term. Lambiase’s contract with Red Bull runs until the end of 2027.
