Audi driver shares the main advice he received from Verstappen
Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto shared the most valuable advice he received from four-time Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen in his first season.
Bortoleto joined Sauber last year alongside Nico Hulkenberg and scored 19 points in his first season, showing competitive pace alongside his more experienced teammate. However, his first year was not free of difficulties, especially at his home race in Brazil, where he was involved in a serious accident during the sprint race.
Verstappen, who supported Bortoleto throughout the season, gave him important advice. When talking about which advice he thought was the most valuable, Bortoleto said:
“He gave me a lot of advice and it’s hard to choose just one. But let’s take what I heard from him recently. He said that I had already achieved a lot this year in my first season and that I shouldn’t worry too much if mistakes happen.”
Mistakes are where you learn the most, and they happen to everyone. There is no need to “kill myself” inside if I did something wrong once or twice – it will happen sooner or later. The important thing is to learn from mistakes and move on.
“It’s a simple thing that a lot of people talk about, but when you hear it from someone who has achieved so much in the sport, it becomes so much more valuable.”
Bortoleto will be on the grid in his first season with Audi this year following the acquisition of the Sauber team.
