Rogic said Aston Villa were favorites to face Tottenham, but that became reality in the FA Cup fifth round, when they withstood a late win (1-2) before defeating the London team at home.

Both coaches made a number of changes in the lead-up to the cup competition, looking to give some important players a rest and give some less important players time. Still, Emery kept Rodgers on the grass and was forced to put Tielemans on the grass early after Kamara was injured by a hard tackle by Parinha in the opening minutes. He wasn’t the only one limping off, as it was Richarlison who went to the dressing room early at Tottenham.

The first half was completely Aston Villa’s. From the start, the Spurs once again seemed to suffer from a lack of a three-quarter difference-maker, with Simmons having to shoulder almost all of the responsibility. In addition, against them, Emery’s team quickly took the lead with a direct combination, with Malen assisting Buendia (22′). We didn’t have many chances in the first half. The only time Thomas Frank’s side have done that was against Kolo Muani, when a goal was ruled out for offside near half-time. They doubled their lead with an assist from Buendia before Rodgers arrived (45th minute).

A story was written. Tottenham, who had a very unsettling home record, will lose. He was able to get them into the game a little early and they started the second half in complete domination. Simmons was the star, twice saving Bizzotto from scoring, but he was unable to stop Odbert’s shot after some great action from Kolo Muani (55′). Minutes earlier, Emery withstood the pressure and sent Sancho and Watkins onto the pitch to regain control. Pedro Polo even avoided the third one on the same line. The tension was maintained until the end. Simmons’ goal was ruled out for a clear offside, and Tottenham’s Solanke returned but could not level the score.
