OFFICIALLY. New F1 team signs contract with ex-Ferrari driver
The Cadillac team announced the transfer of 26-year-old Chinese Zhou Guanyu, who joined the Formula 1 newcomer as a reserve driver on the eve of the American team’s first season.
Zhou’s move to Cadillac comes just days after Ferrari officially confirmed his departure. He served as the Scuderia’s reserve driver last season.
The first Chinese driver in Formula One history has a close working relationship with Cadillac boss Graham Loudon, who has been his manager for several years. The signing of Zhou gave the team a reserve driver with real F1 experience; That’s something test pilot Colton Herta doesn’t currently have.
Zhou spent three seasons in Formula 1 with Sauber from 2022 to 2024. He has achieved 16 points in 68 races during this period, with his best results coming in eighth at the 2022 Canadian Grand Prix and the 2024 Qatar Grand Prix. After the 2024 season, he lost his place in the team along with Valtteri Bottas and lost the cockpit to Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto.
