China’s Zhou Guanyu goes from Ferrari reserve to Cadillac reserve
The General Motors-backed F1 team announced Monday that Chinese national Zhou Guanyu has joined Cadillac from Ferrari as reserve driver.
The 26-year-old competed in 68 Grands Prix with the Swiss Sauber team from 2022 to 2024, managed by Cadillac team principal Graham Loudon.
American-owned Cadillac is the 11th team on the grid, with experienced Finn Valtteri Bottas and Mexican Sergio Perez as racing drivers, and will use Ferrari engines when it makes its Australian debut in March.
Cadillac also has former American IndyCar driver Colton Herta, who will be competing in F2 this year, as a test driver.
Zhou, who was born in Shanghai and is Bottas’ teammate at Sauber, is the only Chinese driver to have competed in F1, with the Liberty Media-owned sport seeing the country as a key growth area.
“I have worked with Graham and Valtteri in various capacities for many years, so joining the team is like coming back to family,” he said.
