Sebastian VETTEL: “We must take care of Ukraine”
4-time Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel urged the world community not to forget to help Ukraine:
“We must not forget that the Ukrainian people are suffering today and tomorrow, and perhaps will suffer for a long time. It’s hard for me to listen to the stories of some families who fled Ukraine and sought asylum. Imagine their suffering.
I grew up in a time when there was no war. You travel the world, you see many places and you know that it is a privilege to live the way we live in Europe. So I think our number one rule is that we have to take care of Ukraine.
There was a long and bitter debate over whether to procure weapons in Germany. In the end, it turned out to be worth it. The threat is that we don’t know how this situation may worsen now and how it may worsen tomorrow.
We don’t know what Putin and Russia will do – or mostly Putin. And that uncertainty. But I think we should do everything we can to stop it and help people who feel threatened, especially people who are suffering like Ukrainians.
There have been discussions in Germany that we need energy, otherwise what will happen to the economy? On the other hand, this money finances the war and harms people. Because this is a very difficult moment.
It gets harder if you constantly think about it, and the answer to this question is not that simple. But as I said, we should not forget people. People die, people suffer. That’s why we have to find a solution.”
