Max Verstappen makes a strong statement about his future at Red Bull
Max Verstappen said he has no plans to leave Red Bull and move to another team until his contract, which runs until 2028, ends.
The Dutch driver, who won his first Formula 1 championship in 2021, signed a long-term deal with the Milton Keynes-based team. At the same time, rumors about performance-related contract terms have repeatedly cast doubt on his future at Red Bull, particularly after last season’s RB21 car became uncompetitive midway through the championship.
The 28-year-old pilot is thought to be a possible transfer to Mercedes or Aston Martin, but in his statement to Blick, Verstappen made it clear that he plans to stay in the team.
Verstappen said: “I am 28 years old now and I have a contract with Red Bull until 2028. I want to honor this agreement. I am not thinking of changing teams at the moment.”
Last season was difficult for Red Bull, but the team managed to return to its old form in the second half. This allowed Verstappen to re-enter contention for his fifth title.
But he lost only two points and the champion was Lando Norris, who won his first Formula 1 championship with McLaren.
Commenting on the team’s late return to competitive levels, Verstappen noted:
“Yes, I’m proud of that. During the chaos surrounding the team leader change, few believed we could come back. We were 104 points behind before the final push.”
