The movie “Formula 1” received four Oscar nominations
The Formula 1 movie, starring Brad Pitt, received several Oscar nominations ahead of the ceremony in March.
The film, released in 2025, tells the story of pilot Sonny Geise, who returns after retirement to help the APXGP team. The hero’s partner is Joshua Pierce, played by Damson Idris.
Formula 1 was directly involved in the filming of the film. Some scenes were shot during real-life race weekends, most notably the 2023 British Grand Prix, where fictional APXGP cars even did a warm-up lap with the peloton.
The executive producer of the film was Lewis Hamilton. The film grossed approximately $631 million worldwide, surpassing World War Z (2013) to become the highest-grossing film of Brad Pitt’s career.
The movie “Formula 1” was nominated for four Oscars, including the most prestigious category “Best Picture”. The last time a sports movie won this category was 2004 (“Million Dollar Baby”).
The film is also nominated for awards in the “Best Editing”, “Best Sound” and “Best Visual Effects” categories.
The Oscars ceremony will take place in Los Angeles on March 15, the same day as the Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix.
