Kirill Smal scored three points in the second stage of the Spanish Formula 4
In Jerez, the second stage of the Spanish Formula 4 was held, where four Russians compete at once this year, including the experienced Kirill Smal, who spends the third season at the level of the “four”.
In the first race of the weekend, the Pole Timoteush Kucharczyk won, who fought off the attacks of Nikola Tsolova from Bulgaria throughout the entire distance, and Valerio Rinicella finished in third place, however, the Italian received a fine for violating the boundaries of the track, and his place on the podium passed to the champion “Formula 4” United Arab Emirates Charlie Wurtz.
Smal became the best of the Russians. He started from fifth place, missed a couple of rivals on the first lap, and although he passed Robert de Haan closer to the finish line, he could not regain his position and took sixth place, but was only 0.07 seconds behind Georg Kelstrup.
Vladislav Ryabov finished the race 17th, but two other Russians were not lucky to retire at the beginning of the race: due to various incidents, Miron Pingasov and Maxim Arkhangelsky stopped the fight already on the first lap.
In the second run, in the fight for the victory, Tsolov got even with Kukharchik, holding on to the lead after starting from pole position, and Rinicella again became the third. Smal this time is in fifth position – behind the same Kelstrup, Ryabov took 19th place, Pingasov finished the race in 22nd position, but Arkhangelsky again did not reach the finish line: Maxim was ahead of two rivals, fought for a place in the top -20, but after the incident with Jeff Machils was forced to stop in the pits.
Arkhangelsky was also unlucky in the third run. This time, Maxim managed to demonstrate his potential, he was 11th until the end of the race and fought for the first points of the season, but, moving in heavy traffic, he flew off the track and crashed the car on the bump stop. The blow turned out to be quite strong, but the rider, fortunately, was not injured. As a result, the judges hung out red flags, and the race ended ahead of schedule – the pilots did not manage to reach the last lap.
In the end, Tsolov won the victory – in six races the Bulgarian excelled three times, Kelstrup took the second place, and Hugh Barter from Australia became the third. Kirill Smal is in eighth position and thus earned points in all races of the weekend, Arkhangelsky is classified 13th, Pingasov took 15th position, and Ryabov became 20th.
Tsolov broke into the leaders of the overall standings due to two victories, Kukharchik is second, losing 17 points, and Barter is in third position. Smal closes the top 10. The next stage of the championship will take place on June 11-12 at the Ricardo Tormo circuit in the city of Cheste in the Valencian Community.
