Saint and Perez switched before the game in Monaco
The two drivers also had to change gearboxes as part of the repairs they made to their cars following the collision during Saturday’s qualifying tests.
Saturday’s qualifying tests for the Monaco Grand Prix ended prematurely when Sergio Perez lost control of Red Bull and crashed into the guard rails. Chaser Carlos Saint didn’t see the yellow flags in time and crashed into the Mexican car.
Finally, in light of Sunday’s race, both Perez and Saint had to change transmissions in addition to all the other necessary repairs their cars required.
This development up to last year would mean a minus point in the starting eleven for both of them. As of this year, however, each driver has four gearboxes that can be used during the season.
That means both Saint and Perez will keep their starting positions for the race, with the Spaniard starting second behind Charles Leclerc and Perez third.
At Red Bull, in addition to the gearbox, they changed the suspension, power steering, floor and rear wing, among other things. Ferrari engineers, on the other hand, made precautionary changes to the gearbox, along with other components of the rear of the car.
The Italians apparently didn’t want to push it like they did last year, when they discovered a defect in the left rear axle of Leclerc’s car just before the start of the race, which ultimately forced Monegasco not to compete.
