“Wind” Leclerc took pole position in Monaco, Ferrari equalized 1-2

Charles Leclerc will start Sunday’s race first after taking pole position at the Monaco GP with a time of 1:11.376. Second is Saint, third is Perez.

Charles Leclerc will be first to start Sunday’s Monaco GP as he claimed pole position for his home country with a scintillating 1’11.376 – in the episodic qualifying tests that ended with the clash of Perez in the barriers and Saint in Perez ended.

Leclerc posted a 1:11.376 on his first attempt in Q3 and was on an even quicker lap before the break for the Perez-Saint accident to bring the first year down even further. However, the result did not change and he won the pole position of the 7th round of this year’s Formula 1 in Monaco.

Ferrari seemed to have a reserve of speed ahead of Q3, although Sergio Perez managed to stay close to Leclerc and Saint in the first two seasons. However, the two Scuderia drivers accelerated to Q3 and completely conquered the front row of the grid. And the position of Monaco is the most important of the year due to the large overtaking difficulties in the Mediterranean port.

On the second row, Perez will line up ahead of Max Ferstappen, who in all the two days has never managed to tune the RB18 to his riding weights, at least not as much as his Mexican team-mate, and was two and a half tenths off the pace of the front-runners.

“It was very special and I am very happy. Everything has gone smooth so far these two days and that last lap before the red flag was really good. I was at the limit,” said Leclerc at the end.

Ferrari’s speed superiority was also acknowledged by Christian Horner, director of RBR: “I don’t think we had any pole position ambitions today, Charles was terrible. It’s a shame because I think both of our drivers could improve their times a bit. [στο τέλος]. We have 3rd and 4th place and maybe the weather spoils something. From there we will fight”.

In a last minute incident, Sergio Perez lost the stern of RB18 at Portier (the last one on the right before the tunnel) and ended up at the exit barriers. The oncoming Carlos Saint couldn’t avoid him, he braked and went into a four, causing his left rear wheel to hit Perez on the right front.

“Perez had an accident ahead of me. I was on a fast lap, I saw the yellow flags and I hit the brakes to avoid him as best I could. It’s a shame, I couldn’t race for another year.” pole position, but that’s it: “Monaco. We’ll never know, but I felt good driving today.”.

Fernando Alonso, who lost his brakes at Mirabo when he saw the red flag, also crashed into the barriers at the last minute. However, Alpine unexpectedly made it into the top ten with both cars, as did Mercedes – who managed to alleviate some of the W13’s problems from yesterday’s ranking tests.

However, as more or less expected, the winner of the battle of the “fastest of the rest” was Lando Norris in a circuit that suits McLaren well. George Russell again beat Lewis Hamilton but he was quicker into Q2, while Sebastian Vettel also made it into the top ten with an impressive lap in Q2, driving an Aston Martin that definitely didn’t pay off.

Pierre Gusli would also be in the top ten if he didn’t miss the chance for a fast lap at the end of Q1. The French opponent Yuki Chunoda took the red flag off the track because of rattling after he made contact with the crash barriers of the chicane after the tunnel. With two minutes to go, there was heavy traffic of 15 cars coming out of the pits – and Gasley was one of those paying for it.

Formula 1. Presentation of the first Audi car. Watch LIVE online

One of the two new teams on the Formula 1 grid is preparing to introduce its car for the 2026 season. The Audi team will officially reveal the new car at a special event in Berlin on Tuesday, January 20.

Audi has fully taken over Sauber’s project ahead of the 2026 season and will start its first Formula 1 championship as a factory team and power unit manufacturer. The team has also retained a significant portion of its 2025 Sauber structure, including team boss Jonathan Whitley and drivers Gabriel Bortoleto and Nico Hulkenberg.

This will make Audi the fourth team to submit designs for its 2026 car, after Red Bull, Racing Bulls and Haas. The presentation will take place in the German capital in the format of a full-fledged seasonal launch.

Following the main event, a separate event will be held in Berlin on Wednesday, January 21 for selected fans and media to take a closer look at the new car and its livery.

The presentation will start on January 20 at 20:00 Kyiv time. During the event, the team will reveal the car’s full design for the 2026 season.

Let’s remember that Audi had previously put the 2026 car on the track during promotional races at the Barcelona-Catalonia circuit in early January, but only a limited number of images were released at that time.

Audi will pay 1 million 250 thousand Euros to the driver for winning the Formula 1 race

Formula 1 driver Nico Hulkenberg can count on a multimillion-dollar bonus in his first season with Audi if he can repeat the results in the 2025 season.

Last season, the German pilot reached the Formula 1 podium after 250 races for the first time in his career and finished the British Grand Prix in third place. At Silverstone, Hulkenberg was ahead of seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton and scored 15 points in one go.

Hulkenberg scored 51 points at the end of the 2025 season.

On the eve of Audi’s first season, specialized media reported that the 38-year-old pilot signed a contract providing a bonus of 50 thousand euros for each point earned in the 2026 season.

Given the large-scale changes in Formula 1, even the pilots themselves cannot yet predict the balance of power in the peloton. However, if Hulkenberg scores 51 points again, the bonus can reach 2 million 550 thousand euros in addition to his base salary at Audi.

If Nico manages to win the race and score the maximum 25 points, this will immediately earn him a bonus of 1,250,000 euros.

The team will present the appearance of its first car today at 20:00 Kyiv time.

F1 pilot’s brother became Ukrainian pilot’s rival in Formula 4

Thomas Berman, the younger brother of Haas Formula 1 team driver Oliver Berman, will officially take part in Italian Formula 4 and Euro 4 in the 2026 season.

Thomas will represent the VAR team colours.

The 16-year-old Briton spent last year in British Formula 4, where he scored one win and finished eighth in the final season standings.

But the ones that are considered the most prestigious and promising are the Italian and European Formula 4 championships. They are often chosen by young pilots for further career advancement. In addition, Thomas’ older brother Oliver Berman also competed in these series and became the Italian Formula 4 champion in 2021 with 11 wins.

Let us also remind you that Ukrainian Alexander Bondarev will compete in the same championships with the Prima Racing team in the 2026 season. The Ukrainian pilot does not hide his ambitions and has repeatedly expressed his intention to fight for the championship title.

Bondarev now participates in Middle East Formula 4 in preparation for the European leg of the season. After the first stage, he took first place in the general rankings and became the leader in the rankings.

Thomas Berman will compete in the Formula Winter Series as part of his preparations.

The competition between the current “four” promises to be extremely high, and the appearance of the younger brother of the Formula 1 pilot will only increase interest in the series.
