Alex Palou’s abandonment with a touch from his teammates
American Josef Newgarden I won this Sunday Road America Grand Prix IndyCar test that had to abandon the Spaniards from Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, USA Alex Palou And Mexican Duck Oward..
This was the third victory for New Garden (Team Penske) in this IndyCar Championship.
This victory at Road America is against New Garden (half of himself and his team and half of the charity) winning the first of the year on all three tracks (oval, street and autodrome). Comes with a $ 1 million bonus award.
Sweden Marcus Ericsson (Chip Ganassi Racing) finished in 2nd place, and American Alexander Rossi (Andretti Autosport), who is now the leader of IndyCar and took pole position on Saturday, took the podium.
Parrow (Chip Ganassi Racing), the first Spaniard to become an IndyCar Champion last year, had a very unlucky day at the 2021 championship circuit.
Parrow, who was third in qualifying, had to retire on lap four of the race after contacting Chip Ganassi Racing’s Spanish teammate Marcus Ericsson on turn five.

The winner of the @roadcamerica race on the defending side will be done for the day.

Parrow did not hide his frustration and anger at what happened as soon as he got out of the car.
“I think everyone saw it. I couldn’t see it from the outside, but I think he (Ericsson) was trying to win the race on lap 3 (the incident was on lap 4). Yes, the car broke down. “Game over,” he explained.
“I was surprised that my partner touched me, not the car broke. I was unlucky, but I can play this game too, so let’s take a look,” he added.
Ericsson gave his version of what happened at the end of the race, but before that he apologized to Parrow.
“First of all, I’m really sorry. I don’t want to get in touch with my teammates. I’m really sorry that Alex had to retire,” he said.
“From my point of view, the door was open and it was a good career move. If I find a hole, I choose it. But still, it’s scary that he had to retire there. That’s it, “he added.
When I had to say goodbye to the race due to engine problems, O’Ward (Arrow McLaren), who was running 9th with eight laps remaining, wasn’t.
The abandonment of the Mexicans and the departure from Brazil’s Elio Castroneves (Meyer Shank Racing) caused a yellow flag and the race did not resume until the remaining three laps. New Garden was able to maintain his first position and Ericsson was second to Rossi.
Featuring Tatiana Calderon of Colombia and Simona de Sylvestro of Switzerland, this Road American race was the first race in an IndyCar with two women on the grid since Indianapolis in 2015.
Castroneves finished 22nd (out of 27th) and Calderon 25th in Road America, IndyCar’s longest and fastest circuit.
In IndyCar’s ranking, Ericsson is 293 points ahead of Power (266), New Garden (261), O’Ward (248) and Parrow (246).
Equality is IndyCar’s dominant note in 2022, with eight different drivers taking pole positions in eight races so far, and only New Garden winning multiple races.
