Wolf: “Hamilton may miss Canadian GP due to back pain”
The severe strain on Lewis Hamilton’s hip and the severe pain he felt during and after the end of the Azerbaijan GP could see him out of the game in Montreal next weekend.
Hamilton said during the race, before he even reached his waist, that the intense ups and downs of the Mercedes W13 caused him excruciating pain. In the end, he came out of the cockpit with great difficulty, saying that during the Baku GP he had to bite his teeth to endure the pain.
After apologizing to Hamilton over a car that Toto Wolff himself described as a ‘scooter’, the Austrian director of Mercedes F1 expressed concern that the British seven-time world champion’s injury could see him sidelined at his upcoming Canadian GP.
“It’s really bad. We have to find a solution.”stressed Wolf. “As of this writing, I think it’s worse affected [από το porpoising] from any other driver. But almost all drivers agreed that something had to be done. I would like to say that this problem also affects George [Ράσελ] and many others”.
When asked if Hamilton’s injury made the 37-year-old’s participation in the Canadian GP doubtful, Wolf said: “Yes, definitely. I haven’t seen or spoken to him yet, but you can easily tell that it’s not a muscle issue anymore.” I mean, this issue goes all the way down to his spine and it can have some repercussions.”
Should Hamilton not compete in Montreal, the most likely candidates for his replacement are Mercedes backup drivers Stoffel Vadurn and Nick de Vries.
