Ferstappen explains how he can get even better in 2022

Unlike Lewis Hamilton in previous years, Max Ferstappen intends to use the No. 1 – due to last year’s champion – in the muzzle of the all-new Red Bull RB18 this year.

To retain his title as long as the RB18 proves competitive following this year’s radical change in regulations and aerodynamics, the Dutchman will first have to adjust to a completely different car, from the ground up, and new Pirelli tyres.

But Max believes he can improve his own driving – because regardless of how he won the title in Abu Dhabi last December, the truth is his performance in almost every race in 2021 has been consistently at the highest level. He also won nearly half (10) of the year’s 22 GPs.

“I always tell myself that I am not perfect in any area. So let’s say you’re at 98% or whatever, so there’s always something you can improve on.” said the 24-year-old – the first driver to have his Mercedes title stripped from him after 2014.

And he continued: “It’s not like I can grow up at anything. It’s just little things, or how I can influence developments in a three-day race even better. How can I prepare better?

How can I make sure I can better understand the balance of the car for qualifying or racing? How can I understand the tires better? stuff like this”.

Speaking about learning the new car and adjusting to it, he added: “Of course the tires will be different again next year. So we have to learn them too. “But we always look at areas like that, like what I can understand or learn with all my previous experience.”
