Kimi Räikkönen will remain in motorsport after the end of his long career in Formula 1, but this time in an administrative position – namely in the Motocross World Championship.

Kimi Raikkonen, 42, has taken charge of the Kawasaki factory team at the FIM MX World Grand Prix, in conjunction with former star Andy Pironen.

The Finn, 2007 F1 World Champion, is no newcomer to motocross: he and Pironen have managed Team IceOne Racing in the same institution for the past 10 years, with considerable success.

Now Kawasaki has decided to give IceOne its full factory support and as Kimi will no longer have Formula 1 commitments he can take over the position of race director of the team renamed KRT MXGP (Kawasaki Racing Team).

Raikkonen emphasized in this regard: “It’s no secret motocross has been one of my passions in life for many years, but I wouldn’t call my involvement in this team a hobby. It’s something very serious, it requires special effort and we hope to be as good as possible.

The Finn continued: “Now that I’ve left the races, I can spend more time in this program. Not so much in the day-to-day management of the team, but in the area of strategy and planning, drawing on my experience of how teams work and what it takes to succeed on the world stage.

“Everyone, including me, is thrilled that the Kawasaki chose us as the official factory team. I know the chances of success are always higher when there is immediate factory support, so this is a great opportunity for us as newcomers Kawasaki racing team by doing MXGP»concluded Raikkonen.
