Hamilton will be able to extend the contract with Mercedes, if he agrees to cut wages – media
Seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton will be able to extend his contract with Mercedes if he takes a pay cut, according to Motorsport Italia.
Now Hamilton has a contract with the team until the end of next season and earns 40 million euros a year, significantly ahead of the income of another Mercedes driver, George Russell. His annual salary is 5 million.
In Hamilton’s new contract, they want to prescribe conditions according to which the amount of the pilot’s earnings will consist of a small fixed part and significant bonuses for results.
Mercedes drivers have not won a single race this season. Now Hamilton has 216 points and is fifth in the overall standings of the pilots, and Russell – 231 points, he is fourth.
The 2022 championship was won ahead of schedule by Red Bull driver Max Verstappen.
