“I’ll do my best to catch up.” Mazepin on the court decision allowing participation in Formula 1
The Russian ex-pilot of Formula 1, Nikita Mazepin, admitted to Match TV that he was looking forward to returning to international motorsport after the decision of the European Court.
On Thursday it became known that the European Court of Justice, by its decision, allowed Mazepin to enter the EU to negotiate and conclude contracts with racing teams or with sponsors not associated with his father, Dmitry Mazepin. A Russian driver is allowed to act “as a main or reserve driver of Formula 1 or other series held under the auspices of the International Automobile Federation (FIA)” in EU member states.

24-year-old Mazepin will have to act under a neutral flag. In addition, the Russian will need to sign a document required by the FIA if he becomes a Formula 1 or other series pilot.
In the 2022/23 season, the Russian races in the Asian Le Mans Series. A year ago, he came under EU sanctions. At the same time, it was announced that the Formula 1 team Haas was ending cooperation with him.
