Vice-President of the Russian Automobile Federation Sergey Sirotkin assessed the chances of pilots from Russia Daniil Kvyat and Nikita Mazepin to continue their careers abroad, noting that he is waiting for a speedy resolution of the situation with the admission of Russians to international tournaments.
– A difficult question, because everything depends not only on them. Of course, as a functionary in domestic motorsport, I would like our pilots to have the opportunity to drive, and specialists to work without restrictions. To do everything more openly than now. Because sport, it seems to me, should always remain out of politics.
And least of all I would like to harm the young guys who have spent years of their lives on motorsport and have reached a certain level. It will be a shame and wrong if they are ready for the next step in the world race, but can not do it. I want this situation to be resolved, ”he said in an interview with RT.
Earlier, the European Court, by its decision, allowed Nikita Mazepin to enter the EU to negotiate and conclude contracts with racing teams or with sponsors not associated with his father, Dmitry Mazepin. The Russian pilot is allowed to act “as a main or reserve pilot of Formula 1 or other series held under the auspices of the FIA” in EU member states.
Kvyat competed in Formula 1 for Red Bull and Alfa Tauri (formerly Toro Rosso) in 2014-2017 and 2019-2020.
