Seven-time world champion Hamilton apologizes to Formula 1 rookie over Monza incident
Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton has taken the blame for the incident with Oscar Piastri during the Italian Grand Prix and apologized to the McLaren driver.
Formula 1 rookie Piastri was eighth in the race at the time of the collision with the Mercedes driver and could score points, but was forced to pit due to injury and finished 12th. Hamilton received a five-second penalty, but finished sixth at Monza.
“It was a bit unfortunate and I misjudged the distance between us at the end of the straight. This is entirely my fault, and I immediately went and apologized to him, and we left it in the past, — quotes the words of the British Sky Sports.
“The stewards have given their verdict and he has apologized, so I can’t ask for anything more at the moment,” Piastri said.
Max Verstappen won the Italian Grand Prix. The Dutch pilot “Red Bull” won the tenth race in a row and set a championship record.
