Qatar GP 2023 F1 Sprint Highlights
- Exit: In the first meters Norris and Verstappen lost places to Russell, Sainz, Leclerc and Alonso due to starting on soft tyres. After Turn 2, Liam Lawson ended up offside after losing the car himself, causing a safety car.
- Round 2: The heated battle between Norris and Alonso ended with the Spaniard losing ground to Ocon, dropping to 8th. Meanwhile, Russell took the lead by taking advantage of the mild conditions, passing Oscar Piastri by surprise.
- Logan Sargeant Abandonment: The American went off the track after losing control of the car on lap 4, causing another safety car.
- Round 6: Sainz battled Piastri on the relaunch with a terrific move on the outside, but ultimately couldn’t convert. Alonso for his part regained the position with Ocon.
- Round 9: The soft tire started to fade in favor of the medium with Checo Pérez improving his pace and performance.
- Round 11: Crash between Checo Pérez, Nico Hulkenberg and Esteban Ocon ending with everyone out of the race in a pileup.
- Round 15: The race restarted without incident apart from Leclerc passing Norris for 5th.
- Round 17: But Norris didn’t back down and took advantage of his medium tire to pass both Ferraris and qualify for 4th place.
- Final: Great win for tire-managing Oscar Piastri, followed by Max Verstappen who recovered from a poor start to cross the finish line in second to become a three-time world champion.
