Wilson Fittipaldi, a former racing driver and owner of the Formula 1 team, has died at the age of 80, reports The Mirror.

Fittipaldi has been in hospital in Brazil since Christmas. An elderly man suffered cardiac arrest after choking on a piece of meat during a family dinner on holiday eve.

Fittipaldi competed in Formula 1 racing from 1972 to 1975. He competed in 38 races in total and is the brother of former two-time world champion Emerson Fittipaldi. His son Christian Fittipaldi was also a racing driver who competed in Formula 1 and NASCAR.

Together with his younger brother, Fittipaldi founded Fittipaldi-Copersucar: the only Brazilian Formula 1 team in history, which existed from 1975 to 1982.
