A stone thrown from under the wheels of a Formula 1 car injured the eye of former tennis player Jelena Dokic. An unpleasant incident occurred during the free practice session of the Australian Grand Prix.
Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso drove off the Albert Park circuit during practice. Dokic was injured by a stone that flew out from under the wheels of the Spaniard’s car.
— Fernando Alonso flew off the track, fragments of stones flying from the rear wheels hit me right in the right eye. I had to see doctors, but everything is fine. Just a bloodshot eye and scratches. I will Survive. Thanks to everyone who took care of me. I’m fine. I’m still ready to watch Formula 1. I can confirm that somehow the makeup didn’t come off, it’s amazing,” Dokic wrote on social networks.
Dokic is 40 years old and has won six WTA singles tournaments throughout her career and was ranked fourth in the world in 2002.
The Australian Grand Prix race will take place on Sunday.
