British McLaren driver Lando Norris showed the best time in the first free practice session at the Formula 1 stage in Canada.
In his fastest attempt, Norris completed the lap in 1 minute, 24.435 seconds. The second result was shown by the Spanish Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz (+0.328), the top three was closed by another Italian team driver, Monegasque Charles Leclerc (+0.871).
The current world champion and season leader Max Verstappen (Red Bull) showed the fifth time (+2.067).
Shortly before the start of the session, hail fell in the region, and it took track personnel some time to partially dry out the racing surface. The riders spent most of the training on intermediate tires and only tried out the soft tires towards the end of the session. Many pilots got caught in traffic on their final attempt.
The Canadian Grand Prix takes place at the Montreal circuit from June 7 to 9.
