Germany arrests former Schumacher security officer on suspicion of blackmailing athlete’s family

In Germany, a former security officer of seven-time Formula 1 champion Michael Schumacher has been arrested on suspicion of blackmailing the athlete’s family, ASB Zeitung reports.

The 52-year-old man was arrested in Wuppertal on Thursday. During the arrest, “a large amount of other evidence” was obtained.

Investigators previously arrested two other suspected extortionists about two weeks ago. According to the prosecutor’s office, the 53-year-old man and his 30-year-old son were in possession of personal photographs of the Schumacher family. The discovered photo data related to the Schumachers’ private lives.

Michael Schumacher suffered serious injuries in a skiing accident in late 2013 and has not appeared in public since.
