Williams replaces Sargent during Formula 1 season, Argentine Colapinto to take his place
Argentine driver Franco Colapinto will replace American Logan Sargent in the Williams lineup for the remainder of the 2024 season, the team’s website reported.
Colapinto has been part of the Williams junior programme since 2023. The 21-year-old Argentine will start racing for the team as a main driver at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza. At the same time, it is reported that Sargent “will remain in the Williams family and will receive the necessary support to continue his career.” The day before the decision was made, the American crashed his car during practice at the Formula 1 round in the Netherlands and finished 16th in the race. In the personal standings of the 2024 season, Sargent is in 20th place, without any points.
Colapinto will be Alexander Albon’s teammate until the end of the year. It was previously announced that from next season, Spaniard Carlos Sainz will be driving for the team alongside Albon.
The Italian Grand Prix will take place from August 30 to September 1.
