Verstappen fastest in first practice for Italian Grand Prix, Leclerc second
Dutch Red Bull driver Max Verstappen set the fastest time in the first free practice session of the Italian Grand Prix.
In his fastest attempt, Verstappen completed a lap of Monza in 1 minute 21.676 seconds. The second fastest time was shown by Monegasque Charles Leclerc (Ferrari; +0.228), and the third place was taken by British driver Lando Norris (McLaren; +0.241).
Mercedes’ roster for the practice session included Italian Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who temporarily replaced George Russell at the wheel of one of the team’s cars. Shortly after the start of the session, the 18-year-old driver crashed his car and ended the practice session early.
Franco Colapinto made his debut as the Williams team’s main driver in the session, replacing Logan Sargent. The Argentine showed the 17th result (+1.204).
The second session of Formula 1 free practice in Monza will take place later on Friday, starting at 18:00 Moscow time.
