Piastri wins Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Sainz and Perez collide and crash on penultimate lap
McLaren driver Oscar Piastri won the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc finished second, 10.910 seconds behind first place, with Mercedes driver George Russell (+31.328) rounding out the top three.
On the penultimate lap, Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) and Sergio Perez (Red Bull) collided in the battle for the podium and crashed their cars, resulting in them retiring from the track.
Reigning world champion Max Verstappen of Red Bull finished the race in fifth place (+1.17.098).
Piastri, 23, took the second victory of his Formula 1 career, having previously won the Hungarian Grand Prix in 2024.
The next stage of the Formula 1 season will be the Singapore Grand Prix, which will take place on September 20–22.
