“We’re not in kindergarten.” Verstappen responds to criticism after struggling with Norris at the start of the US Grand Prix
Red Bull driver and current world champion Dutchman Max Verstappen said that he did not break the rules when fighting with Briton Lando Norris from McLaren at the start of the US Grand Prix in Austin.
Verstappen took second place in the race, Norris lost third position due to a 5-second penalty for overtaking the Dutchman outside the track at the end of the race. Also, both drivers started from the front row, but due to a fight with each other in the first turn, they let Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc go ahead, who won the stage.
“I didn’t push anyone out, Norris and I didn’t touch each other.” I was trying to go around the corner. I was in full swing. It’s a race. We are not in kindergarten.
There was a gap on the inside so I went for it. I chose this option and still ended up second. Started second, came out of the first turn second. This time, of course, Charles was in front. Charles was faster anyway, so he just pulled away. From that point on I just tried to focus on my own race,” Verstappen said, as quoted by RacingNews365.
Verstappen maintains his lead in the overall championship standings with 354 points. Norris is second (297) and remains in the running for the title.
The next stage of the Formula 1 championship will be held in Mexico from October 25 to 27.
