Mexican driver Sergio Perez has confirmed his departure from the Red Bull Formula 1 team.
Perez finished the 2024 championship in eighth place, scoring 152 points. According to media reports, New Zealander Liam Lawson will take his place in the team.
“I am incredibly grateful for the last four years at Red Bull and for the opportunity to race with such an incredible team. Driving for Red Bull was an unforgettable experience and I will always cherish the success we achieved together. We’ve broken records, achieved amazing results, and I’ve had the honor of meeting so many amazing people along the way.
Many thanks to every person from our team – management, engineers, mechanics, catering specialists, and all base employees. I wish you all the best for the future.
It has also been an honor for me to race alongside Max (Verstappen) all these years and share in the successes. A special thank you to the fans around the world, and especially the Mexican fans, for your continued support every day. We’ll meet again soon. And remember…never give up,” Perez, 34, wrote on social media.
Perez has been racing for the Bulls since 2021, the driver was third in the 2022 season and second in the 2023 season. Verstappen won the world title four times in a row.
