Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton has officially become a Ferrari driver.

On the night of December 31 to January 1, the 39-year-old Briton’s contract with Mercedes expired and his long-term contract with the Italian team came into force. Hamilton’s upcoming move to Ferrari was announced back in February 2024.

The British driver’s partner in the new team will be 27-year-old Monegasque Charles Leclerc, who has already spent six seasons with Ferrari. Spanish pilot Carlos Sainz will now drive for Williams.

Hamilton shares with Michael Schumacher the status of the most titled driver in the history of Formula 1 (both have seven titles). The Briton won one trophy as part of the McLaren team, and all the rest with Mercedes. Hamilton last became world champion in 2020.

The new Formula 1 season starts on March 14 in Australia.
