The head of FIA – on the return of Formula 1 to Russia: “Let’s hope. Do you think the conflict will last forever? “
The head of FIA, Mohammed Ben Sulayim, said that he was hoping for the return of Formula 1 to Russia.
In February 2022, Formula 1 announced the impossibility of holding the Russian Grand Prix after the start of the conflict in Ukraine.
– To make it clear, this decision (not to conduct races in Russia) made FOM (approx. The Formula One Management, a company that owns and controls commercial and organizational rights to Formula 1). The FIA was pressure so that it took a tough position and stop holding races in Russia, but I said that I would not violate the rules for the sake of someone.
– Is there a chance that Formula 1 will return to Russia in the near future?
– There is a difference between the commercial part of Formula 1 and motorsport. And we must follow the recommendations of the Olympic Committee, we respect them. But let’s hope. Do you think the conflict will last forever? I hope not. The lives of many people on both sides are put on the map. I hate conflicts, everything is simple.
In the end, I can only say that we follow our principles. We improve them. Can you ever be 100% perfect? No. If you get into the car, can you guarantee that there will be no accident? No. Everything can happen, but we must always monitor compliance with our principles, – quotes Ben Sulayem Expressen.
