Title contenders Piastri and Norris collided in the first corner of the Formula 1 sprint in the USA

McLaren team drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri retired from the US Grand Prix sprint race due to an accident on the first lap.

The team-mates were fighting for the leading position in the first corner when Piastri collided with Kick Sauber driver Nico Hulkenberg and then crashed into Norris. Both McLaren cars received significant damage and ended the race early.

Piastri leads the individual championship standings with 336 points, Norris is second (314).

The leader of the Austin sprint is the current world champion Max Verstappen. The Red Bull driver also maintains his title chances with 273 points.
