Verstappen won the sprint at the US Grand Prix, Piastri and Norris collided in the first turn
Dutch Red Bull driver Max Verstappen won the sprint at the Formula 1 stage in the USA.
The reigning champion started the race from first position and maintained the lead until the finish of the race. The second place was taken by the British Mercedes driver George Russell, the top three was completed by the Spaniard Carlos Sainz (Williams). The finish of the sprint took place in safety car mode due to the accident of Lance Stroll (Aston Martin) and Esteban Ocon (Haas).
Immediately after the start, the main contenders for the title, teammates Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris from McLaren, collided in the first turn. As a result of the racing incident, both cars were seriously damaged and were unable to continue the race.
The victory in the sprint allowed Verstappen to move closer to the McLaren drivers in the individual championship. Now the Dutchman has 281 points, Norris has 314, Piastri has 336.
On the night from Saturday to Sunday, Moscow time, qualifying for the main race of the US Grand Prix will take place.
