Norris won the sprint at the Grand Prix of Sao Paulo and increased his lead in the F1 championship, Piastri retired

McLaren driver Lando Norris won the Formula 1 Sprint Sprint at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.

The top three also included Mercedes drivers: Andrea Kimi Antonelli was second, George Russell was third. Four-time champion Max Verstappen finished fourth.

Norris increased his lead in the individual standings from one to nine points. His teammate and closest competitor Oscar Piastri crashed his car in turn three on the sixth lap and retired. At the same turn and on the same lap, Franco Colapinto (Alpin) and Nico Hulkenberg (Kick-Sauber), who was able to continue the sprint, flew off the track. After that, a safety car appeared on the track.

In the final laps, Antonelli caught up with Norris, but was unable to pass him.

Norris now has 365 points, Piastri has 356 left, Verstappen (326) is third in the championship.

Qualifying will take place on Saturday in Sao Paulo and the race on Sunday.
