Piastri won in qualifying for the sprint at the Formula 1 Qatar Grand Prix, Norris made a mistake in the decisive attempt

Australian McLaren driver Oscar Piastri won qualifying for the sprint race at the Formula 1 Qatar Grand Prix.

Piastri’s fastest lap was 1 minute 20.055 seconds. The second was the Mercedes driver, Briton George Russell (+0.032 seconds), the top three was closed by his compatriot Lando Norris (+0.230) from McLaren. The championship leader made a mistake in the decisive attempt and was unable to compete for pole position.

Dutch Red Bull driver Max Verstappen finished sixth (0.473). For the first time, his teammate, Japanese Yuki Tsunoda, was higher in qualifying and finished fifth (+0.464).

The sprint at the Qatar Grand Prix will take place on Saturday, starting at 21:00 Moscow time.
