Australian McLaren driver Oscar Piastri took pole position in qualifying for the Formula 1 Qatar Grand Prix.
Piastri completed the lap in 1 minute 19.387 seconds, which became a new track record. The second result was shown by his partner, Briton Lando Norris (+0.108), who made a mistake in the decisive attempt and could not improve his time. The top three was completed by the Dutchman Max Verstappen from Red Bull (+0.264).
All three drivers are fighting for the title at the end of the 2025 season; on Sunday, in a certain scenario, Norris can secure an early championship. Now the Briton has 396 points, Piastri has 374, Verstappen has 371.
The race in Qatar will take place on Sunday, November 30, starting at 19:00 Moscow time.
