The head of the Mercedes team responded to accusations of collusion with McLaren
Mercedes team chief executive Toto Wolff responded to accusations made by Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko after Sunday’s Qatar Grand Prix.
The race in Qatar was won by Red Bull driver Max Verstappen, who is fighting for the championship title with two McLaren drivers – Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris. They took second and fourth place respectively. After the race, Red Bull adviser Marco said that Mercedes driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli deliberately let Norris into fourth position, and before that he deliberately did not fight with Piastri.
– This is absolute nonsense. How could such a thing even come to mind? How stupid do you have to be to say something like that in public? I understand their emotions from losing a few points, but our driver was simply mistaken, and we ourselves are upset about it,” Motorsport‑Total quotes Wolff.
The champion will be determined at the last stage, which will take place in Abu Dhabi on December 5–7. Norris has 408 points, defending champion Verstappen (396) is in second place, Piastri (392) is third in the individual standings.
